Two people died in a road crash involving a tricycle and a bus on the national highway in General Santos City.
The bus was heading to Malungon, Sarangani while the tricycle was coming from Malungon when the accident occurred.
According to the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU)-GenSan, the bus driver claimed that the tricycle allegedly encroached the lane of the bus, which resulted in the collision.
“According sa driver, lumampas sa linya yung tricycle kaya nabangga nya, pero titingnan natin kasi nga yung tama ng bus ay nasa right portion, so kung magkasalubong sila, most probably yung tama ng bus ay nasa kaliwa hindi sa kanan yun kasi ang alegasyon ng driver,” TEU-GenSan Chief, Lt. Col. Joel Fuerte, said.
The tricycle driver and his passenger died on the spot.
The bus driver was taken into police custody and may face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide. He refused to give a statement.
TEU is waiting for the victims’ families to decide whether they will file charges against the bus driver.
Authorities reminded drivers to stay focus on the road.
“Wag po tayong mag pa-distract kung ano man yung gina-isip natin dapat naka focus po tayo sa pagmamaneho natin kasi ang aksidente ay split of a second lamang yan na pwedeng mangyari so kailangan talaga ang pag-iingat sa mga drivers natin,” Fuerte added.
