A motorcycle rider slammed into a fire truck that was on its way to respond to a huge fire in Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City.
The road mishap evening on March 23, 2025 on AC Cortes Avenue corner Plaridel Street in Mandaue City was caught on dashboard camera of a vehicle that was waiting for the green light.
The motorcycle was from the Lapu-Lapu City direction.
The 23-year-old male rider was rushed to the Mandaue District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
On Monday morning, March 24, 2025, the firetruck driver appeared at the office of the Mandaue City Traffic Enforcement Unit.
It was learned that he drove a truck owned by a volunteer fire brigade.
The driver refused to give a statement, citing that he would seek first the advice of a lawyer.
“We are also waiting sa parent sa atoang victim, iyang father ug moadto sa Traffic Enforcement Unit office. Aksyon nga gusto niya makuan no, kung mo-file ba siya og case,” Police Lt. Col. Mercy Villaro, information officer of the Mandaue City Police Office, said.
Villaro reminded motorists to always give way to emergency vehicles.
She reminded drivers as well to be cautious while on emergency response.
“Na-a emergency siren ang emergency vehicles, kita ra dapat mopadaplin, mo-stop, mo give way ta… and also atong emergency vehicles sa ila padagan, cautious gihapon sila, with caution gihapon sa intersection. Wa ta kahibawo ang uban wa kadungog,” Villaro pointed out.
