The hot weather has started to affect river systems in Pangasinan, with several rivers now at below normal levels, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
"In coordination with local disaster risk reduction offices monitoring river systems, we found that water levels have dropped below normal. This is likely due to the intense heat," Avenix Arenas, Pangasinan Assistant DRRM Officer, said.
As of 9:30 a.m. on March 24, PDRRMO reported that five major rivers in the province are now below normal levels, including:
- Bued River in San Fabian,
- Marusay River in Calasiao,
- Ambayaoan River in San Nicolas,
- Agno River in Bayambang; and,
- Sinocalan River in Sta. Barbara.
Despite the decreasing water levels, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Sta. Barbara said farmlands benefiting from the Sinocalan River remain unaffected.
"Continuous ang tubig sa irrigation canal. Yung iba, nagpi-prepare na mag-third cropping," Raymundo Santos, DRRM Officer of Sta. Barbara, said.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, especially as the country officially enters the dry season.
