Authorities rescued 19 people from a motorized banca that capsized in Ilang, Davao City.
According to the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM), the watercraft bound for Samal Island reportedly experienced engine trouble and encountered strong current and big waves, causing it to submerge.
Personnel of the Coast Guard Station Davao immediately conducted a search and rescue operation.
The passengers stranded were then rescued and brought on board safely. They received medical assistance upon arriving at the DPWH Panacan Wharf.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident to enhance maritime safety.
