The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in Davao has warned the public that the heat index may continue to rise in the coming days.
PAGASA reported that the heat index in Davao City reached 39 degrees Celsius on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
The city has been experiencing high heat index levels for several days, with 40 degrees Celsius as the highest recorded, so far, which falls under the “extreme caution” category.
The state weather bureau added that the heat index may continue to rise, even though the country is still in the La Niña season.
“Anaa pa kita sa amihan gyud nga panahon, dili pa ni mao ang pinakainit nga atong masinati…mga katapusan sa March o first week sa April, mag-shift na ta into dry season, so init na ang panahon,” PAGASA-Davao Chief Meteorological Officer, Engr. Lolita Vinalay, said.
The heat index measures how hot it feels to the human body, factoring in humidity along with the actual air temperature.
PAGASA has urged the public to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and stay hydrated to prevent heat-related illnesses.
“Atong i-avoid para dili makasinati sa impact sa taas nga heat index kay heat cramps o heat exhaustion or ang mga posibilidad nga moresulta sa heat stroke,” Vinalay added.
