Even weeks before Holy Week, devotees have started flocking to various churches in Dagupan City for Visita Iglesia.
For 75-year-old Aling Elijah, visiting different churches during Lent has been a yearly devotion. She sees it as a way to give thanks for the blessings she has received.
“Lahat ng panalangin ko na inilalapit ko sa Kanya talagang dinidinig Niya,” she said.
According to Fr. Eymard Mark Ma. Gayotin of St. John the Evangelist Cathedral, this tradition is an important part of the Lenten journey.
As devotees continue their visits, the Catholic Church is also urging them to pray for peace in the country.
Visita Iglesia is a traditional spiritual practice where Catholics visit seven or 14 churches.
