Residents of Sitio Calay, Barangay Tuliao in Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan were alarmed after an electrical line sparked suddenly and caught fire morning on Friday, March 21, 2025.
“'Yung tuhod ko nangangatog. Akala namin masusunog na mga bahay namin,” Marylyn Calacsan, one of the residents, said.
Jervin Frialde, a resident, acted quickly to stop the fire from spreading to houses nearby.
“Kinater ko ‘yung wire mismo para hindi na magkaroon ng sunog,” he said.
Despite containing the initial fire, the flames spread to an electric post nearby.
“'Yung wire, naka-straight yan. Nung may pumutok, lumaylay,” Jerry Calacsan, another resident, said.
Authorities confirmed that over 50 tightly packed houses were at risk of catching fire had the situation not been controlled immediately.
The Dagupan Electric Corporation (DECORP) responded quickly and restored the power supply after repairing the damaged lines.
“Nagkaroon ng short sa may service entrance niya. 'Yung isang wire dun, nabalatan, nagdikit. Ngayon, dahil dun, nagkaroon ng spark,” DECORP Spokesperson Atty. Randy Castilan said.
Authorities reminded the public to stay calm during similar incidents and report electrical issues immediately.
They assured that if a power line catches fire, the electricity will not flow into homes but will return to the main line instead.
