A teacher was caught on video admonishing a student and grabbing him by the hair.
The video showed that a female teacher and a male student were in a conversation. Later, the teacher was seen pointing a finger at the student until she grabbed him by the hair.
The incident happened in the premises of a school in Pototan town, Province of Iloilo on March 12, 2025.
According to alias “Bing-bing,” mother of the 14-year-old Grade-8 student, her son was instructed by the teacher to put a stone to a tarpaulin for a school event. The student threw the stone instead and broke into pieces; debris hit reportedly the teacher’s eye and angered her.
“Nilapitan niya, dinuro-duro. After nag-sorry ang anak ko, sinabunutan nya kaagad. Masakit sa kalooban ko kasi ibang tao ang nanakit sa anak ko,” alias Bing-bing said.
The mother added that after the incident, her son was once again called up by the teacher who did the same thing. Her son sustained reportedly an abrasion on the face.
The teacher, Bing-bing said, gave vent to expletives while grabbing her son by the hair.
“Ang anak ko, ayaw lumapit, sinabihan niyang kung hindi ka babalik, tatawag ako ng pulis. Pagbalik nya, sinabunutan na naman at nagalusan ang kanyang mukha,” Bing-bing added.
The school principal did not grant GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas an on-camera interview, but she said that the teacher has apologized already to her and to the student, and vowed not to repeat the incident.
The principal said she advised the teacher to always deal situations with maximum tolerance.
The student will be placed under distance learning, as he is reportedly ashamed to report back to school.
The student had undertaken a medical examination, and that no injuries were found.
“Ipina-examine natin sa RHU [Rural Health Unit] at negative naman ang impression ng doctor. Pero subject to psyche. Ika-counseling natin siya,” Master Sergeant Raquel Cayton, chief of the Women and Children’s Protection Desk at Pototan Municipal Police Station.
Morning on March 20, 2025, the persons involved met with personnel of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
It was learned that the family of the student is determined to file a complaint against the teacher.
The teacher could face a case for violation of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
The news team tried to seek a statement from the teacher, but she refused an interview.
According to the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Iloilo, a report on the incident has reached the office but it was reverted to the school for lacking details.
As of this writing, DepEd Schools Division of Iloilo cannot release a statement pending completion of the said report.
