An official in the Province of Negros Oriental figured in a viral video initiating a raining down of P500 bills upon spectators.
However, the video does not contain further details on the type of event, the exact location, and the date the event happened.
The local aspirant for the May 2025 elections was already identified by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), but he cannot be charged for violating election laws based on the Penera Doctrine, according to a report of GMA Integrated News.
The said doctrine is a decision of the Supreme Court that an aspirant is only considered a candidate once the campaign period starts.
The campaign period for local elective posts is scheduled on March 28, 2025.
COMELEC has condemned the act.
“We condem itong mga ganitong pagpapakita ng karangyaan, pagpapakita na parang minamaliit ang ating mga kababayan, lalo pa na mga mahihirap ang uma-attend ng ating mga rallies,” said Atty. George Erwin Garcia, COMELEC chairman.
