A fire broke out at an eatery made of light materials in Barangay Domalandan West, Lingayen, Pangasinan.

In a video captured by Edward Laureta Quimson, flames consumed the eatery rapidly as thick smoke billowed into the air.

“Hindi namin makaya kasi malakas na ang apoy. Wala nang magawa. Bumabagsak yung apoy,” Lourdes Baccay, the mother of the eatery’s owner, said.

Due to strong winds, the fire spread to a building nearby separated only from the eatery by a metal sheet.

“Yung wind direction niya, papunta doon sa pastoral house,” SFO2 JP De Guzman of the Lingayen Fire Station, said.

“Pagdating namin dun sa fire scene, nasusunog na,” he added.

Firefighters put the fire out after an hour. Initial investigations revealed a plugged-in clip fan inside the owner’s room may have started the fire.

Authorities are still verifying the exact cause, as of this writing.

The management of the structure affected declined to give a statement.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Pangasinan, 105 fire incidents have been recorded in the province from January 2025 to March 20, 2025, lower than the 165 cases reported in the same period last year.

Of these, 65 were structural fires, also a decrease from 86 last year.

The BFP credited the decline in fire incidents to their ongoing fire prevention programs, including "Oplan Ligtas na Pamayanan," where firefighters go house-to-house to provide fire safety tips.

“Maging alerto lagi. Ipa-check ang electrical connections sa bahay. Iwasan ang paggamit ng extension wires,” FCINSP. Michael John Escaño, operations chief of BFP-Pangasinan, advised.
