The National Bureau of Investigation-Davao (NBI-11) is monitoring another local government unit (LGU) that has allegedly issued fake birth certificates to Chinese nationals through late registration.
But NBI-11 said it will not disclose what LGU it is, just yet, while investigation is ongoing and while it gathers evidence.
“But we will not divulge the name of the LGU not unless kumpleto na yung ebidensya namin and investigation,” Albao said.
It can be recalled that NBI-11 filed 66 counts of falsification of public documents, perjury, graft and corruption, and violation of the Law on Registry of Civil Status against some former employees of the Local Civil Registry (LCR) of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, including the former municipal civil registrar, for allegedly issuing fake birth certificates to Chinese nationals in 2018, 2019, and 2021.
“Yung isa, chief, at yung iba, mga empleyado niya doon ito ang mga nakita namin sa birth certificate na pumirma,” NBI-11 Director, Atty. Arcelito Albao, said.
Authorities said more than 1,500 fake birth certificates were found to have been issued to Chinese nationals through late registration in the town.
“I tell you na this 1576 consist only from 2018, 2019 and 2021 we are back tracking on this from 2016 up to 2023 kasi ang alam namin di lang to 1576 meron pa tong madadagdag,” Albao added.
