A man from New Zealand was arrested in Iligan City for alleged grave threats and possession of firearms.
Police responded after receiving a report about a grave threat case with the use of a gun involving the foreigner, who is also a businessman in the city.
Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Spokesperson, Major Joann Navarro, said the foreigner pointed a gun at a bystander, reportedly for no apparent reason after he pulled out of their house on board a vehicle following a fight with his wife.
“Nakasakay ni siya og sakyanan unahan lang sa ilang balay, pagkalabay niya sa basketbolan, nanion og bystander,” Navarro said.
The suspect and his wife had fled the area when authorities arrived, prompting the team to launch a hot pursuit operation.
A policeman on a motorcycle intercepted the suspect’s vehicle in Barangay Del Carmen.
Seized from the suspect were several firearms, including a caliber .40 pistol, a 9mm submachine gun, and ammunition.
The suspect is facing charges for grave threats and alleged violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (RA 10591), and the election gun ban.
“The swift response of our police personnel in apprehending the suspect reflects our firm stance against criminality. PRO10 remains vigilant in upholding peace and security, especially in ensuring strict compliance with firearms regulations and the COMELEC gun ban,” Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Director, Brigadier General Jaysen De Guzman, said.
