Financial assistance worth P12,000 for solo parents in Mandaue City has been approved.

In a session of the City Council on March 17, 2025, a resolution that allowed the distribution of yearly financial assistance worth P12,000 to solo parents was approved.

However, not all solo parents in Mandaue City are qualified to receive the financial aid, based on stringent guidelines.

The city will look into the employment status of the single parent and the number of children.

A total of 2,700 solo parents filed application to qualify for the subsidy, but only about 1,300 have qualified, according to the City Committee on Social Services chaired by Councilor Jimmy Lumapas.

Lumapas pointed out that the assistance is subject to regular validation.

Solo parents are disqualified once they are receiving higher salary rate, or that their source of livelihood is deemed above the definition of indigency.

Solo parents who will get married are disqualified automatically from the subsidy because of the apparent change of status.

The disqualification includes solo parents who will reunite with domestic partners.

“Kinahanglan sad ikaw ra usa ga-raise sa imong anak, kahibawo man ta nga dili lalim pag-raise sa bata, labi na og mag-eskwela na kay ang ato gi- qualified gikan sa zero up to 22 years old, entitled sila mo-receive sa assistance,” Lumapas added.
