A 25-year-old woman in Cagayan de Oro City was arrested after he allegedly strangled her four-year-old daughter to death because she was angry with her husband.
The girl was declared dead on arrival at the hospital where her mother, her mother’s aunt, and neighbors brought her.
The mother reportedly told the doctors initially that her daughter slipped on the floor inside their rest room, but the doctors did not find injuries on the child consistent with the incident she described.
The Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of Puerto Police Station said the mother admitted eventually that she strangled her daughter.
“Didto na nitug-an ang mama (sa amoa) nga gituok kuno niya ang iyang anak. Oo, namatay. Pag-abot (sa ospital) dead on arrival na,” WCPD-Puerto Police Station Investigator, Cpl. Stephanie Naguita, said.
In interview with GMA Regional TV One Mindanao, the woman said she got angry when she could not get in touch with her husband in Cebu City for several days, and she took her anger on her daughter.
“Nabuntungan ko po kasi ano kasi hindi ko po siya ma-contact yung asawa ko po kaya nagawa ko po yun,” she said.
She said she regrets what she did.
“Nagsisisi po ako…nagsisisi na po ako…nawala po talaga ako sa pag-iisip ko nun,” she said.
The woman’s aunt said the woman may have also harmed her one-year-old child had she not arrived.
“Gi-push nako ang pultahan, sus, nakahigda naman ang bata sa cr sa salog,” the aunt said.
The suspect is now detained and is facing charges for parricide and violation of the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination (RA 7610).
“Duha ang kaso kay dili lang sa pagpatay sa iyang anak pati pud kibali ang pag-abusar niya sa iyahang anak,” Naguita said.
