Two rough-toothed dolphins were found stranded on the shores of Laoag City.

Despite efforts to save them, both died later.

According to the chairman of Barangay Navotas-B, a resident spotted a wounded dolphin along the shoreline and reported it to the City Veterinary Office immediately.

Veterinarians said the dolphin was male and measured two meters long. It had visible wounds on its tail.

It was placed in a safe area, monitored overnight, and given initial treatment.

However, it succumbed to its condition the following day.

Before burying the dolphin, experts conducted a necropsy and discovered it had a lung infection.

A similar case occurred in Barangay Caoacan where another rough-toothed dolphin was found with wounds on its body.

A resident attempted to return it to the deeper part of the water but the dolphin reportedly kept swimming back to shore. Due to the heat, it was moved to a shaded area by the river while waiting for veterinary assistance.

The second dolphin also died.

Authorities believe both dolphins were either sick or exhausted from strong waves.

“Kagaya 'yung nangyari sa katulad niya kahapon, posibleng may dinaramdam silang sakit, napagod sila sa lakas ng alon,” Dr. Samantha Licudine, Laoag City’s veterinarian, said.

A necropsy will be conducted on the second dolphin to determine its exact cause of death before burial.
