Residents in Dagupan City continue to experience extreme heat despite the return of the Northeast Monsoon or Hanging Amihan, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

On March 18, the heat index in the city soared to 45 degrees Celsius.

PAGASA said while the monsoon brings cooler temperatures at night and early morning, the heat remains intense at midday, especially in coastal areas like Dagupan City.

"Pag na-hit ng sun yung buhangin, nagkakaroon ng init ‘yan. ‘Yun ang napupunta sa atin, ‘yun ang nagpapataas sa heat index," Engr. Jose Estrada Jr., Chief Meteorological Officer of PAGASA Dagupan Station, said.

Some residents found ways to beat the heat.

A group of cousins from Tayug, Pangasinan, visited the beach early in the morning to cool off.

"Mainit po kasi yung panahon ngayon," Chloerein Xieythea Sulpacio, one of the cousins, said.

Her cousin, Chaelyn Miyhele Sulpacio, shared that their trip was also to celebrate a special occasion.

"Birthday kasi ng mama ko. Dito namin naisipan mag-swimming po," Chaelyn said.

PAGASA said as long as the monsoon winds remain strong, the official start of the dry season may be delayed.
