A rider died after the motorcycle he was riding hit a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on the national highway in Cagayan de Oro City.
Based on investigation, the rider may have been running at high speed and failed to apply the brakes in time when the SUV allegedly made a u-turn.
“Wala niya mabantayan siguro ang pag-execute sa sakyanan mao to nag-collide ang front portion sa motor sa front right portion sa maong sakyanan,” Corporal Frederick Von Cajuelan, investigator of the Traffic Unit of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO), said.
Because of the impact, the motorcycle was pinned under the SUV.
The rider was brought to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival due to severe injuries.
“Due to traumatic brain injury, so even though nga nag-helmet siya ang problema half-face raman ni nga helmet dili siya full face, so nabunal gyud siya,” Cajuelan added.
The SUV driver was taken into police custody temporarily and was released after the two parties reportedly reached an agreement.
“Naa sila’y kasabutan nga nahimo kay ang pamilya pud sa biktima dili man pud ingon nga willing na nga magkaso,” Cajuelan said.
