Some government structures were damaged after two strong earthquakes hit Wao, Lanao del Sur over the weekend.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said at least 20 government structures were affected, including a fire station, a mosque, a rural health center, tourism office, and the municipal hall.
Some houses were also damaged.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), a magnitude 4.6 quake hit on March 6 and followed by a magnitude 4.9 on March 8.
“Noong March 6, 2025 yon yung una pero 4.6 lang. Tapos, sumunod yung March 8, 2025 around 12:53 am medyo malakas, 4.9 yon yung nag-cause ng damages to some structures particularly government and residential houses,” PDRRMO Head, Shaminoden Sambitory, said.
Aftershocks reportedly stopped on Monday.
However, residents were advised to stay vigilant and practice duck, cover, and hold should an earthquake strikes.
“So far, wala pa naman building o structure na totally bumagsak talaga. We are fortunate kasi wala tayong fatality na recorded only two minor injuries during the earthquake,” Sambitory added.
PDRRMO continues to assess the damage caused by the earthquakes.
