A town in Bukidnon has been declared free of insurgency, the 10th Infantry Division (10ID) said.

10ID said the municipality of Maramag was declared insurgency-free based on the resolutions issued by the Sangguniang Bayan and Municipal Peace and Order Council.

Based on the resolutions, all 20 barangays in the town have declared the New People’s Army (NPA) persona non grata.

Religious groups, Indigenous Peoples, business community, and other sectors expressed support to the declaration.

10ID commander, Major General Allan Hambala, said the whole-of-nation approach played a key role in reducing insurgent activities in the town by 70 percent with zero incidents or sightings of the armed groups for over a year.

"To the people of Maramag, this peace belongs to you. Protect it, stay vigilant, and work together to build a future where every child can dream big, every farmer can harvest without fear, and every family can live in peace," Hambala said.

The military said Maramag is the seventh town in the province to be declared insurgency-free, following San Fernando, Kadingilan, Damulog, Dangcagan, Kibawe, and Don Carlos.
