A 22-year-old man drowned after he was reportedly sucked into the cooling water intake pipe of a power plant while fishing at sea near the plant in Iligan City.

Investigation disclosed that the man was fishing with his companions when he was reportedly pulled into the pipe and sucked underwater.

He was brought to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.

The management of the power plant has yet to say if measures will be implemented to prevent similar incidents.

Authorities also warned fishermen to stay away from underwater industrial structures due to the risks they pose.
