Authorities arrested a man in Barangay Poblacion, Bugallon, Pangasinan, for cooking and selling dog meat allegedly.
The operation was carried out on Saturday, March 1, 2025 by the Animal Welfare Investigations Project (AWIP) in coordination with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
AWIP is an international non-government organization that investigates organized animal cruelty.
“Right now, we are here on Operation Relentless Pursuit, which is our campaign to eradicate the dog meat trade,” AWIP Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jacob Lloyd said.
The suspect was caught selling two pots of dog meat dishes, adobo and kilawin, reportedly sold daily.
AWIP said a supplier was providing the suspect with dog meat, and they are now investigating the source.
“We had a tip-off from the community who informed us that they suspected that somebody was illegally butchering dog,” Lloyd said.
AWIP continues to coordinate with authorities for the filing of charges against the suspect under Republic Act 9482 or the Anti-Rabies Act.
“There are many more operations to come. We believe this is an open network of sellers. We will be targeting the rest of the network in the coming months,” Lloyd added.
The group also warned those involved in the illegal trade.
“Quit now. We are relentless in our pursuits,” Lloyd said.
