Three armed men robbed a pawnshop in Davao City in broad daylight on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, and carted away jewelry worth more than P40 million.
The husband of the pawnshop owner said the suspects entered the establishment and pointed their guns at the people inside.
“Kalit lang gyud sila gisulod, gipangtutukan. Naghapa pa sila, tapos nagpost na sila sa ilahang alarm para sa police and then gisulod, naka long arm. Sa sulod gyud sila kay gigamit man mga maso ug mga baril. Of course mga alahas, mga gold ug diamond,” the owner’s husband, Atty. Miguel Palma Gil, said.
The security guard was injured after one of the suspects hit his hand with a gun.
According to an ambulant vendor beside the pawnshop, the two suspects who entered the establishment covered their faces.
The suspects ran away after their getaway motorcycle didn’t work upon their escape.
“Ang nakita lang namo didto sa kuan, sige sila og paandar unya dili mudagan, ay dili muandar ba. Niandar kadiyot unya walay kusog mao to gibiyaan nalang na nila diri,” a witness said.
The suspects also pointed a gun at a traffic enforcer who responded when their motorcycle fell.
“Dagan pud ko ato kay gibyaan man nilang motor. Gitiunan ko, nidagan pud ko,” the traffic enforcer, Reynaldo Al-ag, said.
Police chased the suspects and arrested one of them at the Bankerohan Public Market.
Authorities recovered an M16 rifle, a 9mm pistol, and the jewelry items from the suspect.
The suspect arrested was taken into police custody. He did not issue a statement.
