After the EDSA People Power Revolution Day, which fell on a Tuesday, was declared by President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. as a special working holiday, educational institutions nationwide made the stance to suspend classes to ensure the undisturbed observance of the historic occasion.
Aside from a number of Catholic universities in the National Capital Region, such as DLSU, UST, among others, and members of the EDSOR consortium, schools from the different regions of the Philippines followed suit, making pronouncements of support and calling off classes.
The following are the academic institutions based in the regions that opted to celebrate the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution via class suspensions, in the face of a presidential prerogative that veered away from what traditionally was a non-working holiday.

The Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan Parochial Schools (AVCPS), a system composed of 14 parochial schools in Oriental Mindoro, said in a statement that its suspension of work and classes was in line with the “recognition of this historic event and to provide an opportunity for reflection on its significance.”
AVCPS said it wants to “instill the lessons of the People Power Revolution“ which can be meaningfully done through “creative memorialization” such as prayer services, as well as “educational discussions” like brief talks and video presentations that discuss democracy, peace, and civic responsibility.
La Consolacion College in Biñan, Laguna, meanwhile, said that it is one with the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) in observing the 39th EDSA Day to “reaffirm its spirit as a shining moment in our life and history as a nation.”
The Daet, Camarines Norte-based Mabini Colleges also joined the special commemoration, as they “honor the spirit of unity, courage, and democracy that defined the unforgettable moment.”
