Dengue cases in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental have gone up in the first two months of 2025, according to the City Health Office (CHO).
Data from the CHO showed that dengue cases reached 39 in January and February 2025, higher than the 21 cases recorded in the same period in 2024.
Barangay Molugan has the most number of cases with seven.
“We conduct larva surveillance every barangay naa gyud mi ana nakita namo nga daghan ang mga stock nga tubig wala na takluban na sila ang lamok man gud ganahan na sila sa mga limpyo didto na sila mangitlog sa mga limpyo nga tubig,” CHO Dengue Coordinator, Marianne Cabañero, said.
CHO added that most of the patients are children five to 12 years old.
“Mas humot ang mga bata sa mga lamok…and usually ang mga bata naa sila sa gawas sa balay from 4pm and that time mao pud na ang time nga gipang gutom ang mga lamok,” Cabañero added.
Clustering of dengue cases has also been made in Barangay Molugan and fogging operations have been recommended.
Dengue outbreak has not been declared yet in the city.
Because of the rising cases of dengue, the city government has intensified its campaign against the disease.
Residents were urged to practice the “alas kwatro kontra mosquito” or the 4 o’clock habit against dengue.
All barangays were also directed to conduct cleanup activities every 4 p.m. to prevent the spread of dengue.
