A cause-oriented group in Cebu along with students from various universities and colleges in Cebu City staged a protest during the commemoration of the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution morning on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.
At about 9 a.m., the group staged a protest in the vicinity of the Fuente Rotunda along Osmeña Boulevard that called on the Filipino people to always keep in mind the spirit of the EDSA People Power Revolution that happened from February 22, 1986 to February 25, 1986, and the series of popular struggles and civil resistance leading to the said event.
The protesters carried placards where messages emblazoned read: “No to history distortion,” “Batukan ang Pagtuis sa Kasaysayan (Fight distortion of History),” and “Pakigbisog sa Tinuod nga Demokrasya (Struggle [to attain] True Democracy).”
There were other placards that read: “Marcos paninglon, Duterte panubagon (Hold Marcos liable, Make Duterte accountable).
The group stopped for a few minutes in front of the Police Regional Office 7 and called on the Marcos administration not to revise history in achieving true democracy.
The protesters walked from Osmeña Boulevard to Colon Street in the downtown area where a short program was held in reminiscing the moments of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.
