A transport group has backed the move of drivers and operators of public utility vehicles (PUV) for a fare increase amid the increasing prices of petroleum products.

In an interview with GMA Super Radyo Davao, Southeastern Mindanao Diversified Drivers and Operators Cooperative (SEMDDOC) president, Maning Duran, said the group hopes that the provisional fare increase will be approved.

The group also hopes that the government will enhance its fuel discounts for PUVs in the country.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is set to hear the petitions for fare increase, which would bring the minimum fare to P15 from P13.

However, Duran said LTFRB may only approve P1 increase.
