A 65-year-old wife is in critical condition after she was stabbed and shot several times by her 70-year-old husband in a jealous fit.

According to Police Master Sergeant Alfredo de Gracia, Jr., investigator at the Toledo City Police Station, the victim sustained two gunshot wounds and several hack wounds on her head, on the back, and on her hands and feet.

The incident happened at around 7 p.m. on February 19, 2025 in Barangay Sagay, Toledo City, midwest Cebu Province.

Alias “Rodrigo” said that he was enraged by a joke dropped by his wife on “bolitas,” a penile accessory believed to enhance sexual performance.

Rodrigo said that his wife has not come home since November 2024.

He said that a couple of times his wife evaded physical contact with him, even avoiding a kiss on the cheek.

He said he presumed that his wife is seeing another man.

“Kanang akong hagkan, managang. Dili na modulog nako,” Rodrigo said when sought for comment.

He added that his wife would tell him repeatedly that she does not have feelings for him anymore.

“Giingnan ko niya nga wala na gyud siya’y gugma nako bisan gamay. Miprangka na siya nako nga nakatilaw kuno siya og bolitas, nya unsa man kuno? Maong pwerte nakong lagota,” Rodrigo said.

When he learned that his wife has come home to his sister in law's residence in Barangay Sagay, he went immediately to see his wife and convince her to come home. However, the wife refused. A heated argument ensued.

The suspect went away but returned with a gun and a machete. Tension ensued again after he was refused entry inside the house, that later led to the shooting and hacking incident.

Police recovered a 38-caliber revolver and a machete from the crime scene.

The suspect attempted to flee but was caught in the adjacent Municipality of Pinamungajan in a hot pursuit operation.

It was learned that the couple has ten grown-up children.

According to the family of the victim, the mention of the word "bolitas" was just a joke, and that the wife has stayed faithful to her husband despite her decision to leave their home.

Charges for frustrated parricide in relation to Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004 (VAWC Law), violation of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) gun ban, and illegal possession of firearm will be filed against the suspect.
