Fire incidents in Davao City are rising, according to the Davao City Fire District.

As of February 19, 2025, the number of fire incidents has reached 99, which is a little bit closer to the 128 cases recorded in the first two months of 2024.

Authorities said fire incidents increased by 51.55 percent in January 2025, compared to the same period in 2024 while cases in February 2025 rose to more than 50 percent compared to the same month in 2024.

“As to residential fires ang nag-una gyud nga leading cause is electrical related fire when we say electrical related fire, apil na dira ang mga nag over heat appliances, loose connection wala natarong og saksak, mga dilapidated electrical lines nanga-worn out na that would cause short circuit which result to fire,” Davao City Fire District Intelligence and Investigation Section Chief, Fire Senior Inspector Shaira Borja, said.

Recently, residential fires broke out in the city.

The Davao City Fire District has already requested the Davao City Water District to install fire hydrants in front of fire stations.

It is also waiting for the response of their request for additional fire trucks and other equipment.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) also said that lack of manpower is also among the challenges.

“Sa Davao City dako kaayo ang tabang sa presence sa mga fire volunteer groups so in case naay fire incidents isa gyud na sila sa maka augment sa amoa dahil lack of manpower sa BFP isa sa force multipliers namo is atoang fire volunteer groups,” Borja added.
