Dengue cases in the Ilocos Region have increased by 81 percent in 2025 with 599 cases recorded from January 1 to February 1, 2025, compared to 129 cases in the same period in 2024, according to the Center for Health Development (CHD) - Region 1.

Pangasinan recorded the most number of cases at 296, followed by La Union with 124, Ilocos Sur with 93, and Ilocos Norte with 47.

Despite the rise in numbers, health officials say there is no need to declare a dengue outbreak in any area, as of this writing.

“Kung ikukumpara natin ‘yung kaso doon sa tinatawag na epidemic threshold, makikita natin na mas mababa pa rin ang mga kaso natin. So, hindi pa nangangailangan na ideklara ng isang epidemic,” Dr. Rheuel Bobis, CHD-Region 1 Spokesperson, said.

CHD-Region 1 confirmed four dengue-related deaths as of February 1:

  • Pangasinan: 2 deaths
  • La Union: 1 death
  • Dagupan City: 1 death

Residents have taken extra precautions to prevent dengue, including regular cleaning of surroundings.

“Palagi ako naglilinis para iwas dengue talaga,” Julienne Ballerso, a resident of Dagupan City, said.

Others emphasized the importance of avoiding hospital expenses due to dengue.

“Mahirap ma-ospital kapag nagkasakit kaya maingat talaga,” Rosalina Santillan, another resident, said.

Health officials remind the public to seek immediate consultation if they experience fever, severe headaches, eye pain, muscle and joint pain, dizziness, vomiting, swollen lymph nodes, or rashes.

They also urge residents to keep their surroundings clean to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.
