The Province of Iloilo has logged over 2,000 cases of persons living with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), the highest among six provinces in the Western Visayas Region.
Based on the official report of the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development, there are 2,063 HIV cases recorded from 1986 to December 2024.
According to Dr. Rodney Labis, chief of the Health Service Delivery, a division of the Iloilo Provincial Health Office, in an interview with GMA Super Radyo Iloilo, 256 deaths have been reported during the said period.
In 2024, 296 new cases were recorded, with 52 deaths.
On top of the reasons cited on the spread of HIV is sexual intercourse between male and male persons, at 67 percent.
The data also cited that the youngest person diagnosed in the province with HIV is a two-year-old child, while a 67-year-old person is the oldest.
