Police in Rodriguez, Rizal, arrested a former member of the New People’s Army (NPA) who had multiple warrants for murder and robbery.

Authorities raided a compound and was able to corner the suspect in a landfill area in Barangay Mascap.

The 52-year-old had been on the CALABARZON region’s most wanted list for over 15 years.

Police said he faced at least two murder cases, four robbery cases, and possibly up to 20 other charges.

"Dalawang kaso ng murder, and then apat na robbery, and then nakalagay pa doon sa ating e-warrant, noh… meron pang umaabot ng 20 yung kanyang warrant," PLTCOL. Paul Macasa Sabulao, chief of the Rodriguez Municipal Police, said in a report on GMA's Balitanghali.

Investigators confirmed that the suspect admitted to being part of an ambush in Barangay Macabod in 2009, and in Antipolo in 2010, where four people were killed and six were injured.

"Ni-reveal niya na naging parte siya nung naganap na ambush noong 2009 dito sa may Barangay Macabodbod... kasama rin siya sa pag-ambush na nangyari noong 2010 naman dito sa Antipolo... apat ang namatay at anim ang sugatan," Sabulao said.

The suspect also acknowledged his leadership role in the armed group and recalled past encounters, including a clash in 1999 that resulted in casualties.

"[Noong] 1999 [noong nasa] depensiba po kami sa isang kampuhan pinasok po kami ng 16 IB (Infantry Batallion) ng madaling araw kaya namatayan po kami doon ng dalawa... nagkabarilan po," the suspect said.

In 2020, the suspect attempted to surrender to the Philippine Army but was unable to do so after the military unit in his area was pulled out.

"Ayon sa kanya ay biglang na-pull out 'yung army during that time," Sabulao said.

He denied involvement in some of the crimes linked to him but did not give a clear answer regarding accusations of double murder and assault.

Authorities are verifying additional warrants before filing 20 more charges.

The suspect is now in the custody of the Rodriguez Municipal Police Station.
