A passenger who held onto the entrance area of a jeepney on the course of the trip, and a taxicab driver, perished in an early morning vehicular accident in Santa Barbara town, Province of Iloilo.

The incident happened in Barangay Bolong Este on Monday, February 3, 2025 at 5:35 a.m.

The two were pronounced dead on arrival at the Western Visayas Sanitarium and General Hospital.

The man who hanged on to the jeepney plying the route from Janiuay town to Iloilo City was identified as a certain “Jeric,” 29 years old, a resident of Ito Sur, Cabatuan town, Iloilo; while the taxi driver was identified as a certain “Jomar,” 39 years old, a resident of Barangay Nadsadan, San Joaquin town, Iloilo.

Based on investigation conducted by the Santa Barbara Police, a bus took the U-turn slot  on its way back to Pavia town from its motorpool, but a taxicab slammed into the rear portion of the bus.

Due to the impact, the front part of the bus blocked a big portion of the lane and, in the process, was hit by a Janiuay jeepney bound for Iloilo City.

The passenger who was hanging on to the jeepney was snagged eventually, thrown off the vehicle, and landed badly on the pavement.

Two other jeepney passengers were also reported hurt and taken to the hospital.

According to witnesses, the taxi was moving speedily.
