Authorities seized alleged smuggled cigarettes worth more than P9.4 million at a checkpoint in Calanogas, Lanao del Sur.

Police and military personnel launched an anti-smuggling operation and intercepted a wing van without license plate loaded with around 28,500 reams of alleged smuggled cigarettes.

According to the Lanao del Sur Provincial Police Office, the van was bound for Marawi City from Picong, Lanao del Sur.

Authorities also arrested two suspects on board the van after they failed to present documents for the cargo.

The suspects are facing charges for alleged violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (RA 10863).

The seized items, on the other hand, were turned over to the Bureau of Customs.
