As part of the continuing campaign against loose firearms, the police in Mangaldan, Pangasinan have reminded gun owners to renew their firearm licenses, warning that unregistered firearms could lead to search warrants.
As of 2024, Mangaldan has 227 registered gun owners, but 259 firearms remain unregistered.
Last year, 10 firearms were surrendered to authorities, with five placed under deposit.
This year, three have been surrendered, and one was deposited temporarily.
Police said gun owners who surrender their firearms are no longer interested with the gun so they turn it over to police custody permanently.
Firearms that are deposited are those placed under police custody while gun owners are processing their registration.
“Sa mga gun owner natin na hindi pa nagpaparehistro, please sumunod sa batas. I-register na natin ang mga baril natin,” PCPT. Hernando Martinez, Investigation Officer of Mangaldan Police Station, said.
The PNP conducts regular Oplan Katok operations to remind owners to process their documents.
If they fail to comply, they may become subjects of search warrants.
