The Kanlaon Volcano Observatory has recorded around 70 ash emission events on Mount Kanlaon in Negros Island from January 1, 2025 to January 30, 2025.

Perly Sianson, research specialist at Kanlaon Volcano Observatory, in an interview with GMA Super Radyo Iloilo, said that close to 70 ash emission events were recorded during the said period.

Sianson said that the ash emission events are one of the indicators that the volcano may possibly erupt again.

On January 29, 2025, nine volcanic earthquakes were recorded, and over 4,000 tons of sulfur dioxide (SO2) flux.

The Kanlaon Volcano Observatory continues tight monitoring on the activities of the volcano for the possible raising of alert level.

Alert Level 3 (intensified unrest/magmatic unrest) prevails over Mount Kanlaon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
