Personnel of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) visited the wake of the two children and their mother who were hacked dead by their own father in Barangay Lutac, City of Naga, south Cebu Province.
The CHR personnel visited morning on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 the wake of the 11-year-old boy and the two-year-old girl, and their 32-year-old mother, Junelyn Gimenez.
The CHR personnel refused an interview, but it was learned from the authorities that they also conducted a separate probe on the heinous crime.
The suspect, Carlo Camporedondo, 33 years old, is under hospital arrest, as of posting time, after he sustained a gunshot wound on the right knee during the manhunt operation when he tried to attack reportedly an arresting officer.
Charges for murder and two counts of parricide are set to be filed against Camporedondo on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
The City Government of Naga will shoulder the burial expenses for the three victims, said Mayor Valdemar Chiong.
As for the seven-year-old child who was in school at the time of the incident, the City Government will check on who among his relatives will be able to take care of him.
As for Archbishop Jose Palma, he will also check on how Caritas Cebu, the soial development arm of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cebu, could assist in the funeral expenses and the surviving member of the family.
As public outcry has been observed to be strong, individuals have started to pledge help for the seven-year-old survivor.
Interment of the three victims is set on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
Meanwhile, in his visit to the City of Naga, Cebu Police Provincial Office Director, Colonel Jovito Atanacio, has reminded policemen to strengthen programs on social awareness that would further encourage the community to report to the authorities immediately any incidents of domestic violence and abuse.
