The Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) will look into the rising prices of roasted chicken in Pangasinan despite a stable supply.
In Mangaldan, the price of roasted chicken reached P280 to P290 per piece from the previous P260 to P270.
For the past week, vendors have struggled with higher costs, which they attribute to the rising price of live chicken.
“Kasi ‘yung live weight, mahal daw,” Dennis Domondon, a roasted chicken vendor, said.
Sales have slowed, with vendors selling around 40 chickens daily, compared to higher weekend sales of up to 70.
Liempo, which remains at P300 per piece, also sees stronger demand on weekends.
“Sabado, Linggo, malakas. Aabot ng 70, liempo 30, ganun,” Joemar Servito, another vendor, said.
Bulk orders offer slight relief, with customers paying P240 per piece for orders of 30 or more.
However, SINAG insists that there is no shortage of chicken.
“Sobrang production pa rin ng manok. And tuloy-tuloy rin ang import. So, walang kakulangan ng manok,” SINAG Chairman Engr. Rosendo So said.
So also questioned the price hike, stating that based on their monitoring, prices should remain at P260 per piece.
“’Yan ay kailangan ma-check natin. So far, ang monitoring natin, dapat nasa 260 lang ‘yan. So, titingnan natin,” he added.
