The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and other law enforcement agencies seized alleged smuggled cigarettes worth around P11.6 million in Zamboanga City.
CIDG said the 203 master cases of alleged smuggled cigarettes confiscated were allegedly imported without Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) stamps, which is a violation of the national tax and customs laws.
The items seized were turned over to the BIR for custody while investigation is ongoing.
CIDG added that a case buildup is underway for the possible filing of charges against individuals or entities responsible.
“This operation demonstrates our resolve to address smuggling and ensure the accountability of individuals involved in these unlawful acts. The CIDG remains committed to protecting our country’s economy and public welfare,” CIDG Director, Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III, said.
