The camp of Jonas Cortes, former Mandaue City mayor, has taken delight in the news on a
Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) being granted by the Supreme Court to election cases.
It was learned on January 15, 2025 that the Supreme Court issued a TRO to election cases of five candidates who were earlier disqualified from the May 2025 elections.
With the said development, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has stopped temporarily the printing of voting ballots.
While Cortes' election case is not among the cases being issued a TRO, but his camp is hopeful that the case will be tackled and decided upon by the Supreme Court soon.
Cortes’ camp surmised that the case is not yet listed in the Supreme Court's calendar of agenda.
“What is clear is there is no any kind of decision yet on our case if the TRO has been denied or whether it was granted or was it even taken up during the en banc session that being the case we are hopeful since there’s an en banc session every week. We are positive (be)cause looking at, although dili pareha ang mga cases, but what we know dili mo-hesitate si Supreme Court mo-issue og Temporary Restraining Order against the Comelec if ever they see nga naay problema ang kadtong decisions,” Atty. Jamaal James Calipayan, Mandaue City administrator, said.
