Up to 106 passengers and 15 crew members of a passenger vessel were rescued nearly six days after the boat was reported missing while navigating the sea en route to Turtle Islands, Tawi-Tawi from Zamboanga City.

The distressed vessel was located approximately 5.4 nautical miles west of Siklangkalong Island, Tawi-Tawi on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

According to the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM), the vessel experienced engine trouble near Pangutaran Island on January 8.

The problem was fixed initially but the vessel encountered more mechanical problems and was left adrift without fuel. There was also no communication signal in the area.

Local fishermen spotted the vessel and coordinated with authorities.

Upon reaching the vessel, NFWM personnel provided water, food supplies, medical aid, and internet access so passengers could contact their families.

The passengers were transported to Turtle Islands while the distressed vessel was towed to Taja Island.
