The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has belied allegations that some ‘newly assigned’ policemen are involved in planting illegal drugs at checkpoints.
In the social media post that spread online, a supposed motorist whose identity was not disclosed claimed that a policeman flagged him/her down upon reaching a place reportedly called ‘star gate’ and he/she was told to open the trunk of the car.
When the motorist was told to proceed, he/she looked for an area where he/she could stop and check the trunk of the car. He/she allegedly found sachets containing “white crystals” in the truck, which he/she decided to throw away.
The supposed motorist believed that the policemen at the checkpoint might have alerted other cops in the next checkpoint about the supposed illegal drugs.
These claims were refuted by the DCPO.
DCPO said there is no ‘star gate’ and there are no cops who have just been assigned in Davao City.
DCPO said the post was only meant to destroy the image of the Davao City police.
“Kadto nga message, nag-start to siya 2018. So, gipun-an lang siya sa karon nga message nga gipang-forward sa mga tao. And then sa lugar nga iyahang giingon, wala man tay Star Gate diri sa Davao City,” DCPO Spokesperson, Captain Hazel Caballero, said.
DCPO is hunting down the person responsible for spreading the information on social media.
“Atoang Davao City Police Office, kung mag-conduct ta og checkpoint, wala ta nagapa-open og trunks sa sakyanan. Only plain view. So, wala ta nagapanaog sa mga tao nga anaa sa sulod sa sakyanan para atong kapkapan. Naa tay integrated command center sa DCPO headquarters so makita ang tanan nga mga police station nga naga-conduct og mga checkpoint,” Caballero said.
DCPO urged motorists to report lapses or violations committed by police officers manning checkpoints.
