A fish buyer who slept at the roadside while waiting for a fish car to arrive lost around P30,000 to a thief.

The incident in Barangay San Nicolas Proper was caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera.

The CCTV footage showed that a man in blue shirt fished out the money from the pocket of the victim who was fast asleep.

The thief tried, at first, to flag down an electric bicycle (e-bike), but the vehicle did not stop. He got on board another e-bike. The rest of the incident was not captured anymore by the CCTV cameras in Barangay San Nicolas Proper.

The incident happened on January 14, 2025.

The victim sought assistance from San Nicolas Proper Barangay Chairman Clifford Jude Niñal.

He narrated that he was waiting for a fish car to arrive but fell fast asleep. When he woke up, he found the cellophane that kept the P30,000 missing.

The incident was already reported to the authorities, but the identity of the suspect has not been determined.

Police believe that the thief could have observed the fish buyer for quite a time because he seems to be familiar with the amount the fish buyer has.

Niñal urged the suspect to return the stolen money.

He also advised the public to avoid complacency, despite the presence of 60 CCTV cameras mounted in areas of the barangay, most especially when bringing huge amount of money.
