A barangay "tanod" (village watchman) was arrested for violation of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) gun ban.

He was nabbed in Sitio Lower Crusher, Barangay Lawaan 3, Talisay City, Cebu on January 12, 2025, or on the first day of the election period and implementation of the COMELEC gun ban.

The suspect was identified only as “Johnalo,” 39 years old, married, a resident of the said place.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Epream Paguyod, chief of the Talisay City Police, disclosed that they were conducting a COMELEC checkpoint and patrol in the said area. The suspect was caught in the act possessing a caliber .38 revolver with three live bullets.

It was confirmed that the firearm is unlicensed.

According to the Lawaan 3 Barangay Chairman Regie Marababol, the "tanod" was under suspension in relation to the use of alleged illegal drugs. 

“Diri sa barangay naa tay BADAC [Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council], mohatag man gud ta’g chance sa mga tawo nga gusto magbag-o, then ni-apply na siya dire nga pwede ba siya moserbisyo sa barangay, akong gi-interview, dugay-dugay gyud siya’g apply, mga pila gyud to ka tuig, tabang man sad siya’g pamadlong,” Marababol said.
