Rough seas caused by the northeast monsoon or amihan have deprived fishermen in Dagupan of their usual catch. The low supply, in turn, has brought prices of fish up at the Magsaysay Fish Market.

“Kasi malamig ang panahon ngayon kaya kakaunti ang nahuhuli talaga kaya syempre mataas din ang presyo,” Rubina Fernandez, a fish vendor, said.

The following price increases were noted at the market, as of this writing:

  • Malaga: P450-P500/kg
  • Pampano: P400/kg
  • Talakitok: P550/kg
  • Galunggong: P200/kg
  • Red Snapper and Alimango: P550/kg

Despite the high prices, customers like Sheryl Posadas still buy fish.

“Palagi akong bumibili kahit mahal kasi kailangan natin ng isda sa katawan,” Posadas said.

The prices of bangus prices have also gone up slightly at P150-P170 per kilo, wholesale.

SINAG Chairman, Engr. Rosendo So, assured the public that the supply of bangus remains stable.

“’Yung mga local natin ngayon talagang kakaunti,” he noted, but emphasized that there is no need to worry about shortages in the coming months.
