Dagupan City has reported at least 10 cases of water meter theft since December 2024, adding to over 100 cases recorded in 2024.

According to Pamana Water, the incidents occurred in various barangays.

“Hindi mo na siya masasabing isolated. Talagang criminal acts na siya,” Marge Navata, Pamana Water spokesperson, said.

The stolen meters are dismantled for their brass components, often sold to junk shops.

Replacing a stolen meter is costly for residents, pushing many to install locked metal grills and additional security measures.

Rosalina Santillan, a resident, shared her proactive steps: “May dalawang ilaw naman kami sa harap kaya maliwanag kasi talagang may mga nanakaw diyan,” she said.

Pamana Water has coordinated with authorities to investigate the recurring thefts.

They continue to urge residents to check their meters for security and potential leaks regularly.

“Dapat regular din nilang i-check para malaman nila kung andoon pa ba or kung may mga leaks na ang kanilang pipes,” Navata said.
