Calle Real in Iloilo City is "spaghetti" wires no more.

For the longest time, residents complained about knotted and dangling power lines and telecommunication lines.

The dangling and unsightly wires have long been deemed an eyesore and those which posed risks to motorists and pedestrians.

The removal of the unsightly spaghetti wires has highlighted the beauty and grandeur of heritage sites.

The development has earned praises from residents and netizens, including those from other provinces.

A 47-year-old vendor, Ricardo Aujero, is glad that the dangling wires that look as though clotheslines have been removed, finally.

“Sa ngayon ay maganda na kasi naayos na. Dati ano kung tingnan? Parang mga sampayan na nakalaylay sa kalsada,” Aujero said.

Meanwhile John Carlo Cabral, a student, said that the removal of unsightly wires enhances the beauty of the street and heritage structures, a boost to city tourism.

“Mas maganda kasi di ba ang mga turista pumupunta ngayon, nag-enhance na ang beauty ng Iloilo. Malapit na kasi ang Dinagyang ngayon,” Cabral emphasized.

The Local Government Unit of Iloilo City started the removal of spaghetti wires on January 2, 2025 based on a city ordinance that coordinated with electric and telecommunication companies.

After Calle Real, spaghetti wires at Diversion Road will be removed next.

“This project is a testament to our commitment to really preserve the heritage of Iloilo City while pushing for modernization,” said Joy Fantilaga, spokesperson of Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.

On January 13, 2025, Mayor Treñas discussed with public utility companies on housekeeping of utility wires along Diversion Road and gave a deadline until end of April 2025 to the companies.
