Torrential rains brought about by the shear line inundated areas in Eastern Visayas. The Municipality of Jipapad in the Province of Eastern Samar has declared a state of calamity. 

In two provinces of Samar Island, 15 towns were reported flooded because of the heavy rainfall that started since January 8, 2025.

According to Sher Saises, information officer of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 8, towns affected in the Province of Eastern Samar are Dolores, Can-avid, Taft, Jipapad, Oras, San Julian, and Maydolong. 

In the Province of Northern Samar, the shear line has affected the Municipalities of Catarman, Lapinid, Mondragon, Catubig, Laoang, San Roque, Rosario, and Bobon.

Floodwaters in these areas have reportedly reached waist deep.

At least 1,248 families, or 4,837 individuals were evacuated to safer grounds.

No casualties were reported, no persons were reported injured, as Local Government Units (LGUs) were able to implement preemptive evacuation.

The LGU of Jipapad in Eastern Samar has declared a state of calamity.

OCD 8 has hoisted a Blue Alert status based on the weather system that has prevailed.

“Fortunately, wala po tayong casualties, yung sa atin lang po dito, nagpa-evacuate din tayo sa mga low-lying areas at saka prone sa landslide and flooding, naging factor po na wala tayong casualties,” Saises added.
