A member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) who allegedly operated an illegal gun shop was arrested in Barangay Tiguian, Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur.

According to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), the suspect was arrested by virtue of a search warrant for alleged violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (RA 10591) issued by a court in Pagadian City.

During the operation, authorities seized five caliber .45 pistols; two M16 rifle lower receivers; an improvised firearm; assorted ammunition; and gunsmithing equipment.

“This operation demonstrates our commitment to dismantling illegal firearms operations and enhancing public safety. We will continue to take decisive action against individuals involved in the illegal firearms trade,” CIDG Director, Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III, said.

CIDG said the suspect is an active CAFGU member assigned at the Delta Company, 53IB, and was running a makeshift gun shop at his residence.

He allegedly offered firearms repair and customization services to clients, including politicians, law enforcement officers, and civilians.

The suspect is considered a highly skilled gunsmith as he had worked in several gun shops in the country.

CIDG added that the suspect was arrested on December 20, 2020 for alleged unauthorized sale of firearms but he was able to post bail and his case was dismissed by the court later.
