Nine people were injured in a road crash involving a pickup truck and a tricycle in Tupi, South Cotabato.

Police said truck, which was transporting fish, and the tricycle were heading to Koronadal City when the accident happened.

Initial investigation showed that the driver of the truck reportedly lost control of the vehicle when one of its back tires exploded. The pickup truck then hit the tricycle.

“Nawalan ng control ang driver (ng fish car)… bigla itong kumabig papunta sa outer lane at doon nga nabangga nito ang tricycle,” Tupi Municipal Police Station Spokesperson, Senior Master Sgt. Rea Gatinao, said.

Police said the five men on board the truck, the three passengers of the tricycle, and the tricycle driver were injured and were brought to the hospital.

The boxes that contained the fish were thrown off the vehicle.

Investigators are still assessing the damage of both vehicles while the two parties continue to settle, as of this writing.

Authorities reminded motorists anew to check the vehicle first before traveling.

“Huwag nating balewalain ang mga minor defect na nakikita natin sa ating sasakyan,” Gatinao added.
