Additional family tents will be provided to evacuees who will be taken to Himamaylan City in Negros Occidental should the need arise.
Over a thousand family tents have already arrived in Himamaylan city. Over 300 have been pitched.
Though Local Government Units (LGUs) have permitted the return of residents to their homes outside of the six-kilometer radius permanent danger zone (PDZ) at Mount Kanlaon, Task Force Kanlaon haS prepared for possible scenarios that would raise the alert level to Number 4 (hazardous eruption) expected to extend the PDZ from 10 kilometers to 14 kilometers.
“We are trying to set up yung facilities. Sa management ng camps, pag-uupuan pa yan namin ng LGUS concerned. Yung responsibilities ng bawat isa in managing the camps,” said Office of Civil Defense 6 Director Raul Fernandez.
The tent city will serve as evacuation center of residents from different LGUs in the event of a major volcanic eruption.
OCD 6 has mulled on the creation of more tent cities in places far from the effects of ashfall events.
Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections-Negros Island Region (NIR) has put in order the contingency plan for the 2025 Midterm Elections should Alert Level 4 gets hoisted over Kanlaon Volcano.
One of the steps is to put voting precincts in evacuation centers so evacuees are able to cast their votes.
“Magta-transfer tayo ng mga voting center from one place to another. We will prepare also na doon kami magpaboto kung saan yung evacuation center. Hindi namin gusto na pahirapan ang mga evacuees natin na botante,” COMELEC NIR Director, Atty. Lionel Marco Castellano, stated.
